Carbon Sciences Accelerates Development of Breakthrough CO2 to Fuel Technology
Company Energized by Solid Technology Foundation

Santa Barbara, CA - February 8, 2011 - Carbon Sciences, Inc. (CABN), the developer of a breakthrough technology to transform greenhouse gases into gasoline and other portable fuels, today announced details of its plan to accelerate the development of its breakthrough CO2 to fuel technology.

Carbon Sciences’ technology is based on a high performance catalyst for the efficient transformation of CO2 and methane gas into a synthesis gas, which can then be processed into gasoline and other fuels. The fundamental reaction being catalyzed is known as CO2 reforming of methane. Previous attempts by industry and research groups fell short of achieving a sufficiently robust catalyst. A commercially viable CO2 reforming catalyst and technology is a game changer for the oil and gas industry -- enabling local production of transportation fuels near greenhouse and natural gas sites, as well as enabling global energy independence.

Byron Elton, Carbon Sciences’ CEO, commented, “We believe we have the most robust catalyst in the world for CO2 reforming of methane. Laboratory scale tests show greater than 90% percent conversion efficiency over 2,000 hours, with no detectable byproducts and very little catalyst deactivation.“

The company is committed to a highly focused, aggressive development plan to demonstrate the performance of its catalyst at higher scale in a commercial grade testing facility. The key development and commercialization milestones include:

1. Testing the powdered form of catalyst in a commercial facility using protocols generally acceptable to the oil and gas industry.

2. Developing carbon/energy efficiency simulation models and economic analyses.

3. Engaging a strategic partner to develop and manufacture the commercial form of the catalyst, such as pellets for deployment in industrial fixed bed reactors.

4. Engaging strategic partners for dry reforming process design, and for the downstream conversion of synthesis gas into gasoline and liquid fuels using existing technologies such as Fischer-Tropsch.

Elton added, “We are energized, focused and excited about our development plans. Our technology foundation is solid, our team is best of breed and our vision is clear. While there are still hurdles to overcome, we are working from a strong base with a clear path to commercialization. Now, we must execute and develop this transformative technology that we believe can help solve the world’s energy and climate problems.”

About Carbon Sciences, Inc.

Carbon Sciences Inc. is developing a breakthrough technology to transform greenhouse gases into liquid portable fuels, such as gasoline, diesel and jet fuel. Innovating at the forefront of chemical engineering, we are developing highly scalable clean-tech processes to produce liquid fuels from naturally occurring or human-made greenhouse gas emissions. From sources such as natural gas fields, refinery flare gas, landfill gas, municipal waste, algae and other biomass, there is an abundant supply of inexpensive feedstock available to produce large and sustainable quantities of liquid fuel to replace petroleum for global consumption, thereby eliminating our dependence on petroleum.
