Rodinia Lithium Raises US$440,000 With Sale Of Certain Non-Core Assets


Toronto, Ontario, September 17, 2014: Rodinia Lithium Inc.  (“Rodinia” or the “Company”) (TSX-V: RM), has entered into a sale agreement with a private Argentine borate mining company to sell 600 hectares of mining rights comprising a portion of the Salar de Centenario (“Centenario”) property, held by the Company.  In exchange for the sale of a 100% interest in the mining rights comprising the 600 hectares of Centenario, Rodinia will receive US$440,000 payable in 22 monthly installments of US$20,000.   The sale agreement helps strengthen the Company’s balance sheet and does not impact Rodinia’s flagship Salar de Diablillos property. 

William Randall, President & CEO, commented, “The sale of the Añatuya & El Quevar claims that formed part of the Centenario group of claims helps strengthen the Company’s financial position, as we expect these monthly payments to cover the entirety of our fixed costs in Argentina, including on-site processing work and maintenance, overhead, and other associated local office costs associated with our flagship property.”

The first payment under the sale agreement has been received, and future payments are expected to be received by the Company on the first week of each month over the next 21 months.  The sale of the Añatuya and El Quevar claims reduces Rodinia’s Centenario property interest to approximately 500 hectares.  The Company has previously completed preliminary exploration on the Centenario claims and determined that in light of the quality and size of its Diablillos resource, continued advancement of Diablillos would create greater shareholder value than work at Centenario.  As a result, future work at Centenario was not anticipated in the foreseeable future and the Company determined that its sale would best support the Company’s current needs.

Gigafactory or 200 Gigafactories – Lithium Demand is Reinforced




Rodinia Lithium Inc. (“Rodinia” or the “Company”) is encouraged by the discussions and events held at this year’s World Energy Innovation Form.  The overarching theme is continued support for the expansion of the lithium-ion battery industry, which supports continued and increased demand for lithium carbonate.

Rodinia’s Salar de Diablillos lithium-potash project is located in mining friendly Salta Province, Argentina boasts an inferred National Instrument 43-101 compliant resource of 2.8Mt lithium carbonate equivalent and 11.2Mt potash with significant further resource expansion possibilities.  Processing work to date has confirmed the ability to produce battery grade lithium carbonate with sample results indicating purities consistently in excess of 99.5%.

The work program required to take the deposit through Feasibility Study is 90% completed.
The Company controls 100% of the prospective producing area of the Salar de Diablillos, which eliminates resource sharing concerns and should enable a fast track through to production once the Feasibility Study is completed.

Rodinia Lithium Provides Processing Update On Progress At Diablillos


Toronto, Canada, June 11, 2013: Rodinia Lithium Inc. (“Rodinia” or the “Company”) (TSX-V: RM) is pleased to provide an update on its small scale pilot pond system at its wholly owned Salar de Diablillos lithium-potash project, located in Salta Province, Argentina.  The small scale pilot pond system, which has been working continuously since February 2012, has been providing on site experience and allowing for several advances in the metallurgical process.  Highlights from the pilot pond system include:
  • Second batch of lithium carbonate produced, increasing purity to 99.79% Li2CO3
  • Additional work completed to improve removal of interfering magnesium and sulphate ions
  • Developed and demonstrated an alternate method to produce caustic soda during the process
  • Use of caustic soda later  in the production process, potentially reducing reagent costs
  • Work continues on site to improve yield, develop separation techniques and reduce raw material costs
William Randall, President & CEO of Rodinia, commented “While we experienced delays due to a variety of factors, including a third straight year of record rainfall during January and February, we are on track to deliver an updated economic study on the project.  Results of additional work conducted on the Salar lead us to believe the updated study will be in line with our previously completed Preliminary Economic Assessment, showing very robust figures with relatively low capital expenditure.  Management believes that the high returns and low capital output of the project are attractive components in the current financial climate.”

During the first quarter of 2013, a second process run on a larger scale was completed, resulting in the production of a second batch of lithium carbonate.  The process employed remains largely the same as the Company’s initial run, but the increased quantity of lithium carbonate produced allowed for a hot water wash to improve the quality of the lithium carbonate.  This additional step in the process resulted in increased lithium carbonate purity of 99.79%.

In addition to completing production of a second batch of lithium carbonate, the Company’s engineering team has been operating the small scale pilot pond system continuously in search of improvements in the process design.  The engineering department has been successful in lowering magnesium and sulphate concentration below levels achieved in previous runs.  Removal of magnesium and sulphate ions to achieve low concentration levels in accordance with the Company’s process design has been successful.

In addition, a significant development has been achieved in the production of caustic soda during the evaporation sequence.  An alternate method was tested on the Salar in an attempt to harvest caustic soda during the regular operation of the evaporation ponds.  The Company remains encouraged that the successful harvesting of caustic soda could result in lowered externally sourced reagent use, which in turn, has the potential to lead to meaningful operating cost savings.

The Company expects to provide further updates of work completed on the Salar de Diablillos over the coming months.
The project is supervised by Bob Cinq-Mars, P. Eng. Mr. Cinq-Mars is considered a Qualified Person, as defined by National Instrument 43‐101 and has reviewed and approved the scientific and technical information contained in this press release. Mr. Cinq-Mars is not independent of the Company.

(“Rodinia” or the “Company”) (TSX-V: RM; OTCQX: RDNAF) is pleased to report that sylvinite has been successfully produced and harvested at the Company’s 100% owned Diablillos lithium-potash brine project (“Project” or “Salar” or “Diablillos”) in Salta, Argentina.   Sylvinite, a potash and sodium chloride salt, has been harvested during operation of the pilot engineering program being conducted on site.  The results of the brine geochemical development during this pilot cycle was within the Company’s expectations and offers significant confirmation of the initial portion of the metallurgical process described in the Company’s Preliminary Economic Assessment conducted on Diablillos dated December 22, 2011 and filed on the SEDAR profile of the Company at www.sedar.com (the “PEA”).

This initial result from the pilot engineering program is from the first series of solar evaporation tests at ambient conditions of the Salar.  The evaporation was started May 2011 and concluded in April 2012.  The first series is one of five evaporation tests in progress.  Each test in pools and pans were started at different times of the year to see the effect of weather on the evaporation cycle chemistry.  The resultant brine from these evaporation tests will subsequently be processed for recovery of boron and lithium products.
The process engineering department continues to monitor the evolution of both the pools and pans installed on site at approximately 4050 metres above sea level.  As announced previously, a first stage of magnesium and sulphate removal has been completed, followed by successful removal of sylvinite in the ensuing step, confirming that potash is going to be a valuable by-product of an eventual lithium carbonate production facility.

Rodinia Lithium Receives Positive Preliminary Economic Assessment

Rodinia Lithium Receives Positive Preliminary Economic Assessment for the Diablillos Lithium Brine Deposit With NPV of Up to US$964 Million and IRR of 36%

is pleased to announce the results of the Preliminary Economic Assessment ("PEA") completed on its 100% owned Salar de Diablillos lithium brine project ("Diablillos" or "Salar") located in Salta Province, Argentina. The PEA outlines an operation producing 15,000 tonnes lithium carbonate ("LC") per year and approximately 51,000 tonnes of KCl ("potash") per year, projecting a 34% internal rate of return ("IRR") pre-tax and a US$561 million pre-tax net present value ("NPV") at an 8% discount rate. The PEA also outlines Rodinia's available option to increase production to 25,000 tonnes LC and 85,000 tonnes potash per year. This increased production scenario generates a much higher pre-tax NPV estimate of US$964 million, along with a pre-tax IRR of 36%. Rodinia continues to advance the technical and processing aspects of the Salar and will commence a feasibility study once the PEA report is finalized. 

The PEA was completed by SRK Consulting (U.S.) Inc ("SRK") located in Lakewood, Colorado and is effective as of November 1, 2011. The brine resource model and resource estimate were provided to SRK by Paula Larrondo, Principal Geologist, P.Geo., of AMEC Internacional Ingenieria y Construccion Limitada, Santiago, Chile, Qualified Person ("QP") for the Company's NI 43-101 compliant recoverable lithium brine resource estimate. The complete PEA report will be filed on SEDAR and Rodinia's website within 45 days of this news release.

The PEA is preliminary in nature, includes inferred brine resources that are considered too speculative geologically to have the economic considerations applied to them that would enable them to be categorized as mineral reserves, and there is no certainty that the estimates of the PEA will be realized.

Due to the favourable geochemistry of the brines, our potash and boric acid production is such that revenue from the sale of these products will result in credits in excess of US$3,500/tonne of LC, more than covering our total anticipated production costs. As long as prices for potash and boric acid remain at today's levels or higher, Diablillos has the potential to remain price competitive down to historic lows for lithium carbonate pricing."

The Salar has favourable economic potential across a range of discount rates, annual production rates, and long-term LC prices. In all cases the Salar shows robust economics consisting of large NPV values and significant positive cash flows, which position it favourably relative to other PEA reports issued for salars at a similar stage of development in the Puna region of South America.
Will Randall elaborated on the preliminary economics of the Salar, "We are pleased with the results and initial conclusions of this PEA. While the assessment estimates robust economics with first quartile capital and operating costs, we gained considerable insight to further improve on these already favourable numbers. We will look to validate these opportunities during the Feasibility Study phase, which will commence once the PEA report is finalized." 

Economic Parameters and Assumptions
The PEA presents a base case operation producing 15,000 tonnes of battery grade lithium carbonate per annum and 25,000 tonnes of battery grade lithium carbonate in the optional production scenario. First production levels of 9,000 tpa LC (15,000 tpa LC for optional production) are expected to be reached after three years of mine construction and pre-production, with full production levels reached two years later. Allowing a further year for the completion of a Feasibility Study, the PEA contemplates initial production by 2015. Management will begin to evaluate methods in which feasibility level engineering and mine construction can be combined to expedite this production timeline. In particular, management will focus on construction of pilot ponds that will subsequently be employed in the commercial production circuit.
Details and Assumptions 

Total initial capital expenditures (including contingency) are estimated at US$144 million to produce 15,000 tpa LC and US$220 million to produce 25,000 tpa LC. The initial capital cost estimate excludes closure costs and sustaining capital. Sustaining capital requirements for years 1 to 20 of operation (15,000 tpa LC) were estimated to be approximately US$80 million including wellfield maintenance and replacement.

Mine construction for a 15,000 tpa LC production facility requires the installation of 23 production wells, approximately 7 square kilometers of evaporation ponds for the production of lithium carbonate, potash and boric acid. At 25,000 tpa LC, the requirements increase to 53 production wells and 11.5 square kilometers. While the wells, evaporation ponds and potash plant are designed to be constructed on the Diablillos property, the current design contemplates constructing the boric acid and lithium carbonate plants off-site at an industrial park in Pocitos. Cost analysis performed on the various options, taking into account capital costs requirements and operating costs, indicated constructing the lithium carbonate and boric acid facilities where access, natural gas, and power are readily available presented considerable cost savings across the board.
A conservative pumping rate of 11 litres per second was employed for this study based on field test work. It is important to note that numerical groundwater flow and solute transport modeling, constraining well drawdown and accounting for dilution impacts on brine chemistry, has demonstrated that higher extraction rates can be achieved from the sand and gravel aquifers predominant at Diablillos. Once further tests are completed on production size wells management expects the estimated capital expenditures required for well construction to be significantly reduced. Pond construction considers an initial unlined pond, where brine is brought to saturation, followed by a series of subsequent lined ponds. There is natural clay occurring on or near Diablillos that will allow for construction of the initial ponds, offering cost savings over lined ponds. Any brine losses experienced in this unlined pond go straight back into the underlying Salar sediments and can be potentially recovered at a later date. 

The total average operating costs over 20 years are estimated to be negative at (US$703) per tonne LC once the potash and boric acid credits are applied, based on the following:

Well and pond costs as well as G&A costs were assigned to all three products according to the percentage of revenue generated by each commodity. Potash plant costs were assigned exclusively to potash and LC plant costs were distributed between lithium carbonate and boric acid, as both of these are produced in the same plant complex. By far the largest expense is the cost of reagents, and in particular soda ash and lime, followed by transportation costs. 

Consistent with practice in the industry, this PEA has been prepared with an engineering accuracy of +/- 30%. As the project progresses through the feasibility stage, advancement in the detail of engineering will improve the accuracy to approximately +/-15%. The PEA used commodity pricing provided by Rodinia that was assembled from various studies and sources, including industry leading reports and forecasts provided to the Company through its relationship with Forbes & Manhattan Inc., access to industry specialists (boric acid), and generally accepted industry standard pricing based on recently completed studies similar in nature to this PEA. The PEA assumed long-term commodity prices of US$5,500 per tonne LC, US$620 per tonne potash, and US$1,150 per tonne boric acid. 

PEA Report
The PEA was prepared in accordance with the guidelines of National Instrument 43-101 by the independent engineering firm SRK Consulting Limited with contributions from AMEC Internacional y Construccion Limitada ("AMEC") of Santiago, Chile, and Mr. Robert Cinq-Mars of North Carolina, USA (whose work experience includes 20 years with FMC Lithium Division as Manager, New Resources and Process Development). SRK is a leading full-service engineering and consulting firm. The final PEA technical report will be filed on SEDAR within 45 days. 

Description of Proposed Operation
The proposed operation for Diablillos will largely make use of conventional evaporation based processing, similar to those employed at Silver Peak (Nevada, USA) and Atacama (Chile). The brine is to be pumped from subterranean aquifers by a series of production wells to an initial unlined evaporation pond. The proposed lithium recovery process is a combination of solar evaporation steps, in-field brine treatment, by product potash ("KCl") and boric acid recovery and chemical processing to produce lithium carbonate. The process results in a high lithium recovery of approximately 65%. The process contemplates a series of six ponds from largest to smallest, where the largest is used to bring brine to saturation and is designed to be unlined reducing the capital cost of pond construction. Sylvinite is to be harvested from the third pond, which is proposed to be subsequently upgraded through a conventional floatation process to muriate of potash. Brine extracted from the final pond will have a concentration of approximately 12% lithium chloride and will be transported to the treatment facility in Pocitos, where boric acid and lithium carbonate are produced. Groundwater and Solute Transport Modeling
SRK evaluated potential brine extraction for Diablillos to produce lithium carbonate, potash and boric acid. This modeling was based on the resource estimate conducted previously by AMEC (please refer to the press release dated April 11, 2011), and on work completed more recently by Rodinia and SRK; in particular the completion of pumping tests and additional drilling. The work was completed based on the development of 3-D numerical groundwater and solute transport models and included the assessment of:

--  The number of extraction wells needed to meet production targets, their
    locations, total pumping rates and the subsequent drawdown in
    surrounding areas

--  Expected changes in lithium, potassium and boron concentrations within
    the extracted brine over time given possible surface water dilution and
    dilution from surrounding areas containing lower concentrations of these
    components

SRK completed the numerical modeling using MODFLOW-2005 (groundwater flow) and MT3DMS (solute transport) finite-difference codes that are supported by Visual MODFLOW software (SWS, 2010).

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 20, 2011) - Rodinia Lithium Inc. ("Rodinia" or the "Company") (TSX VENTURE:RM)(OTCQX:RDNAF) is pleased to provide an update on progress at its Salar de Diablillos Project ("Diablillos" or "Salar") located in Salta Province, Argentina. Diamond drilling on the Salar is ongoing, having completed six drill holes for a total of 1,008 vertical metres. Drilling consistently encountered sand and gravel dominant lithologies, with recoveries varying between 10% and 100%. Sections with high recovery were sent for granulometric analysis with results varying between 85% and 95% fine sand or greater diameter grain size.

During diamond drilling, brine was sampled using bailer tests, where one and one-half times the volume was removed before collecting the sample. D-DD-01 intersected 150 metres grading 521 mg/l lithium ("Li"), 5,254 mg/l potassium ("K"), 660 mg/l boron ("B"). This hole was drilled in the northeastern portion of the Salar where intersections consistent with the one observed in D-DD-01 are expected. Fractured basement was encountered from 189 metres to the end of hole. The fractured basement was saturated with lithium brine averaging 557 mg/l lithium.

We have now drilled and sampled the deposit with various different methodologies and have found consistent and positive results throughout. D-DD-02 encountered heavy artesian conditions limiting brine sampling to irregular intervals. However, all values collected between 42 metres and 156 metres depth averaged 510 mg/l Li. This hole was drilled in close proximity to D-RC-16, which also encountered heavy artesian conditions with brine values averaging 575 mg/l between 42 metres and 102 metres (for additional information please refer to press release dated January 13, 2011).

This is also the location of the first pump test which was successfully completed last week. Final reports on the pump test results are expected shortly and will be released accordingly.

The Project is supervised by Ray Spanjers, Rodinia's Manager of Exploration. Mr. Spanjers is considered a qualified person, as defined by National Instrument 43-101, and has reviewed and approved the scientific and technical information in this release. According to the Company's sampling protocol, sample size is to exceed 500 millilitres and be stored in clean, secure containers for transportation. The prepared samples are then forwarded to the ALS Laboratory Group, Environmental Division, in Fort Collins, Co (USA) for analysis. A rigorous QA/QC program is implemented consisting of regular insertion of standards and blanks to ensure laboratory integrity.

Rodinia Lithium Inc. ("Rodinia" or the "Company") (TSX VENTURE: RM)(OTCQX: RDNAF), is pleased to report that it continues to intersect high-grade lithium and potash in its reverse circulation drilling exploration program on its Salar de Diablillos lithium-brine project in Salta, Argentina ("Diablillos" or the "Salar"). The Company has commissioned a second drill which is already operational on the property as a result of the successful exploration program and to ensure timely delivery of an initial resource estimate.

William Randall, President and CEO of Rodinia, commented "we continue to intersect high quality lithium brines in the southern portion of the Salar. Hole D-RC-11 is remarkable in that we have intersected 204 metres of high grade mineralized brines in a single aquifer composed almost exclusively of sand and gravel. These conditions are extremely favourable, especially in an area we did not have high expectations for. The drills have now moved to the northern portion of the Salar where the higher grade brines are expected, based on the auger drill results."

Results from the latest four drill holes are summarized in Table 1. All the holes reported in this press release were drilled in the southern lower grade portion of the Salar as determined by the surface auger drilling. The reverse circulation drill holes were drilled vertically to ensure proper representation of the stratigraphic column. As in the previous drill holes, the distribution of lithium concentrations over the hole are remarkably even, suggesting that the entire stratigraphic column below the near surface clays represents a single aquifer, composed primarily of sands and gravels. The clay content in all holes drilled to date has been low to negligible. Holes D-RC-10 and D-RC-11 both may have encountered basement rocks towards the bottom of the hole where schistose material was detected in the cuttings. The depths at which the basement is thought to have been encountered are substantially greater than those predicted by the gravity survey, increasing the potential value of the basin.

Asampling procedure was enforced by management to ensure sample integrity during the drill program. Where possible, brine and sediments samples were air lifted, and water restricted to the upper part of the hole before the water table was intercepted. Once brine bearing horizons were intercepted, drilling was halted and the drilling pipe lifted 2 feet or more to allow the total flushing of the internal pipe by means of air pressure for approximately ten minutes or until the brine appeared reasonably clean of sediment. After sufficient air lifting of the brine, a sample was collected in 500 ml sample bottles that had been washed three times with the brine. Liquid was also collected in five gallon buckets and the time of filling of the bucket recorded, in order to aid in quantifying the formational flow.

Rodinia Lithium Inc. Contracts AMEC to Provide Independent Resource Estimate for Diablillos Project

Rodinia Lithium Inc. ("Rodinia" or the "Company") (TSX V: RM) (OTCQX: RDNAF),

is pleased to announce that it has engaged AMEC Internacional Ingenieria y Construccion Limitada ("AMEC") to prepare an initial mineral resource estimate and National Instrument 43-101 compliant independent technical report with respect to the Salar de Diablillos lithium-brine project located in Salta, Argentina ("Diablillos" or the "Project").

AMEC is an international engineering consulting firm with world wide experience that includes estimating mineral resources at certain Chilean salars and experience in several lithium projects, including previous work on Diablillos itself. AMEC's staff of highly qualified engineers and geologists are available to begin working on the project immediately.

AMEC's team of consultants will be lead by Mr. Douglas Chapman (Principal Mining Engineer), Dr. Armando Simon (Principal Geologist), Dr. Rustin Cabrera (Principal Geologist), and Marc Etienne (Senior Hydrogeologist). Collectively this team of experts has over 120 years of experience that includes mining and processing in the Salar de Atacama, lithium exploration campaigns in Chile, and management of lithium projects in Bolivia, Argentina, Peru and Chile, among others.
